Submitting your book proposal

If you’re interested in writing a book for UCL Press, then we’d love to hear from you. We welcome proposals for monographs, short monographs, edited collections and textbooks.

Please contact Pat, Chris or Dhara with a brief outline of your book so they can assess whether it falls within our scope. If it does, they’ll send you a proposal form to complete.

Pat Gordon-Smith


Pat joined the team in 2019, bringing more than 30 years’ experience as an editor of for academic publishers, educational charities, and a range of professional publications. She commissions our monographs and edited volumes in Architecture, Heritage and Museums, History, Education, Social Sciences and Law, and is excited at the growth of strong thematic connections across these subjects.

Dr Chris Penfold


Chris has been commissioning books for UCL Press since its launch in 2015. His key areas of commissioning are Anthropology, Built Environment, Development and Sustainability, Modern Languages and Political Science.

Dhara Snowden

Textbooks Publisher

Dhara joined the team in 2021 and is responsible for commissioning undergraduate and postgraduate textbooks across a range of subjects, including Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM and Business. Before joining the Press, Dhara held editorial roles at Rowman & Littlefield International, Edinburgh University Press and Bloomsbury Publishing. She is passionate about research-led teaching and keen to create new textbooks that support students with hybrid learning.
